REV. MSGR. THOMAS DUFFY
Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts. Brother of Dorothy Loreti (Philip) of Peabody, MA and the late John Duffy (Grace), Raymond Duffy, (Barbara Hortsing) and Helen Duffy; beloved uncle of Kathy Gaffney and many other nieces and nephews.
He pursued his seminary studies at Saint Mary's Seminary, Baltimore, Maryland and at the North American College, Rome, Italy. He was ordained to the priesthood on December 19, 1953 at the Chapel of the North American College in Rome
Upon his return to the Archdiocese of Washington in 1954, his first assignment as Parochial Vicar was at Saint Thomas Apostle Parish, Washington, D.C. and in 1962 to Saint Stephen Parish, Washington, D.C. while also serving as Chaplain of the Newman Center at George Washington University. In 1966 he was named founding Pastor of St. Raphael Parish, Rockville, Maryland. In 1975-76 he served as Pastor-in-Residence at the North American College, Rome. In 1977 he took up residence at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Washington D.C. and was named to the newly established position of Secretary, Priest Personnel and in 1978 Director, Continuing Education for Priests. In 1981 he was named Pastor of the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament where he served until his retirement in 2005 when he took up residence at Our Lady of Victory Parish, Washington, D.C. and then in 2012 at the Jeanne Jugan Residence.
Monsignor Duffy was named a Monsignor in 1971. He served on the Council of Priests, the Archdiocesan Board of Education, the Priest Retirement Board, as well as a Dean, an Archdiocesan Consultor and a liaison to the Maryland Catholic Conference.
The Vigil will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Washington DC from 3:15 to 7 p.m. and on Friday, October 19 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. The Vigil Mass will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday October 18 and the Funeral Mass on Friday, October 19 at 11 a.m. at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament.
