Father Paul Eugene Sheehy, 78, Hastings, a retired priest of the Diocese of Lincoln, died Wednesday (8/16/06) at MadonnaRehabilitationHospital, Lincoln. Father Sheehy was born July 8, 1928, to Thomas and Ella (Gallagher) Sheehy at Hastings. He graduated from St.CeciliaHigh Schoolin Hastingsin 1946. After seminary studies in St. Louisand St. Paul, Minn., Father Sheehy was ordained a Catholic priest on May 27, 1954, in St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Hastings. He served parishes in Brainard, Lincoln, Greenwood, Bellwood, Plattsmouth, Fairbury, Ulysses and Hebron. In addition, Father Sheehy served as principal of Pius X High School in Lincolnand chair of the religion department of AquinasCatholicHigh Schoolin DavidCity. He also served as dean of the Plattsmouth, Fairbury and Hebrondeaneries in the Dioceses of Lincoln. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors: sisters, Dorothy Sheehy, St. Louis, Sister Thomasella Sheehy O.P., St. Catherine, Ky., Sister Marie Sheehy S.S.P.S., Antigua, West Indies; sisters-in-law, Betty Sheehy, Mary Helen Sheehy, both Hastings, Methvyn Sheehy, Garden City, Kan.; 27 nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by: parents; brothers, Monsignor Robert Sheehy, William Sheehy, Phillip Sheehy.

Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Saturday, St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Hastings. Bishop Fabian W. Bruskewitz and priests of the Diocese of Lincoln. Highland St. Patrick's Cemetery, ruralHastings. Visitation: 5-9 p.m. today, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Butler Volland Funeral Home, Hastings; one hour prior to services Saturday, church.
