Msgr. James Cain, 82, died in Omaha on May 6, 2013.

Archbishop George J. Lucas presided at Msgr. Cain’s funeral Mass May 11 at St. Wenceslaus Church, which Msgr. Cain helped build and where he served as pastor for 12 years. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Omaha.
The late priest was chancellor from 1969 to 1981. After serving as chancellor, Msgr. Cain was appointed vicar general and he was assigned as pastor of St. Wenceslaus Parish to help build the new church in southwest Omaha. He was pastor at St. Wenceslaus from 1981 to 1995, then served as pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Springfield until he retired in 2002 and eventually moved to St. John Vianney Residence in Omaha.
He received the title of monsignor in 2003.
A native of Elgin, Msgr. Cain studied for the priesthood at Conception Seminary in Conception, Mo., and St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Minn.
Ordained in 1956, his first assignment was assistant pastor at St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha.
Msgr. is survived by a niece, Barbara Becker of Fremont, Calif.
