Appointed Auxiliary Bishop of San Francisco

 

Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Rev. Msgr. Robert McElroy as a new Auxiliary Bishop of San Francisco. He has been a pastor in San Mateo, CA.  He will be installed on Tuesday, September 7, 2010.

Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Rev. Arthur Kennedy as one of two new Auxiliary Bishops of Boston.  Most Rev. Kennedy will be installed on September 14, 2010.

Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Most Rev. Blasé Cupich, currently Bishop of Rapid City, to succeed Bishop William S. Skylstad who has retired.  Bishop Cupich will be installed on Friday, September 3, 2010.

Catholics in Springfield, Ill., have a new bishop -- Chicago native Thomas J. Paprocki. Until this appointment by Pope Benedict, Paprocki was an auxiliary bishop in the Chicago archdiocese. He has been a Chicago bishop since 2003.

Most Rev. Joe S. Vasquez

Class of 1984

 

Pope Benedict XVI has named Joe Vásquez as the Bishop of the Diocese of Austin, which serves the greater Central Texas region.  Bishop Vasquez is the first Mexican-American to lead the Austin diocese.  At age 52, he is one of the youngest Catholic bishops in the country.  He is the former bishop of the Galveston-Houston Diocese.  He was installed on March 8, 2010.

Pope Benedict XVI has appointed Rev. Msgr. W. Michael Mulvey as the new Bishop of Corpus Christi to succeed Bishop Edmund Carmody. A native of Houston, he was installed on March 25.

New Executive Secretary of Alumni Association

At the annual Business Meeting of the Alumni Association in Rome, Msgr. Michael Curran (BROOKLYN) was elected Executive Secretary.  Msgr. Svarczkopf (INDIANAPOLIS) stepped down after his 5-year tenure and passed on the "Alumni" stole to Msgr. Curran.

Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr, Coadjutor Archbishop of Cincinnati since Oct. 17, 2008, has succeeded Archbishop Daniel E. Pilarczyk, becoming the 10th ordinary of the archdiocese since its founding in 1821.

Pope Benedict XVI has named Bishop Daniel Flores, 48, of the Archdiocese of Detroit, as the new bishop for the Diocese of Brownsville, TX.  He was installed as the sixth bishop of the diocese on February 2, 2010.

         Pope Benedict XVI has named Most Rev. Jerome E. Listecki as the 11th Bishop of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee. Bishop Listecki has been the Bishop of La Crosse since March 1, 2005.  He was installed early in the year 2010.

Most Rev. Kevin C. Rhoades

New Bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend

          The Most Rev. Kevin C. Rhoades, who has headed the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg since 2004, was appointed ninth Bishop of Fort Wayne-South Bend, Ind., by Pope Benedict XVI in an announcement released from the Vatican Saturday. Rhoades, 51, was installed in Indiana on Jan. 13.

  His Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI, has named Fr. Joseph Siegel as a new auxiliary Bishop for the Diocese of Joliet. He was ordained Bishop on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Raymond in Joliet.

Monsignor Robert C. Evans has been appointed auxiliary bishop of Providence. Monsignor Evans has served in many capacities in the Diocese of Providence and is pastor at St. Philip Catholic Church in Greenville. Monsignor was also the Director

in charge of the ICTE program at the Pontifical North American College for several years.

Pope Benedict XVI Names New Bishop

The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, has named the Reverend Monsignor Bernard A. Hebda, Undersecretary of the Pontifical Council for the Interpretation of Legislative Texts at the Vatican, as the new Bishop for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Gaylord. Bishop-elect Hebda, 50, of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, will become the fourth bishop of Gaylord succeeding Bishop Patrick R. Cooney who has led the diocese for the past 20 years. The announcement was made today by Archbishop Pietro Sambi, Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, in Washington, D.C.  

As required by Church law, Bishop Cooney submitted his resignation to the Holy Father when he turned 75 on March 10 of this year. Bishop Cooney will remain in the diocese as Apostolic Administrator until the date of Bishop-elect Hebda’s episcopal ordination and installation, which has been scheduled for December 1, 2009 at St. Mary Cathedral in Gaylord.
