Born April 10, 1951, the first of ten children to Earl and Helen Boyea, Sr., in Pontiac,
Michigan. Raised in Waterford and attended Our Lady of the Lakes Parish in Waterford
and the parish school from third through eighth grades. Attended Sacred Heart Seminary
High School and College, 1965-1973; the North American College and the Gregorian
University in Rome, 1973-1977, 1979-80. Ordained a priest on May 20, 1978. Named a
prelate of honor to His Holiness, Jan. 18, 2000, named auxiliary bishop of Detroit and
titular bishop of Siccenna, July 22, 2002, and ordained a bishop on Sept. 13, 2002.
Appointed fifth bishop of Lansing, Feb. 27, 2008, to be installed April 29, 2008.

Bishop Thomas Doran (NAC 1962, CSM 1978) of the Diocese of Rockford has announced the appointment of three alumni to be Chaplains to the Holy Father, with the title of Monsignor: Rev. Msgr. Gerald Kobbeman (NAC 1967), pastor of St. Rita parish, Rockford; Rev. Msgr. Timothy Doherty, Ph.D. (NAC 1976, CSM 1982), pastor of St. Catherine of Siena parish, Dundee, and Diocesan Ethicist; and Rev. Msgr. Michael Kurz, J.C.L. (CSM 1987), judicial vicar of the Diocesan Tribunal. In announcing the appointments Bishop Doran said these men "have taken on the equivalent of two, and sometimes three, full time jobs without complaint and given exemplary service and commitment in all capacities." reported by Rev.
